Sherie Adams Christensen

Hi, and welcome!  Let me tell you a little bit about me.  I am an extrovert with a deep nurturing side, who loves to connect with others and curiously explore  life.  I adore being a mom to 4 teenagers, teaching them important life skills like piano, family dance parties, and marshmallow wars.  I do triathlons, teach Zumba, embrace holistic wellness philosophies, and love football.  I would much rather be in front of 10,000 people than making spreadsheets, crafts, or trying to figure out how to decorate...anything. (I am in awe of those who excel in such areas).  I have the best job in the world, but if I had to pick something else I'd be a professional athlete...yes, even after being hit by a car while roadbiking!

My Background

Butterfly

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and received my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Brigham Young University in 2004.  My Masters Thesis explored the effect of multiple sexual partners on subsequent marital sexual satisfaction.  I have 20+ years of experience in therapy and therapeutic education.  I speak at conferences nationally and internationally where I delight in meeting and teaching amazing people!  Some of my favorite local conference presentations have included: Utah Coalition Against Pornography (UCAP), Life After Divorce Conference (BYU), North Star, SA Lifeline, and Women's Conference (BYU).  I have published several articles in peer reviewed journals, and a book helping parents teach their children about healthy sexuality from young ages.  I have consulted for and/or interviewed on podcasts, religious websites, books, and radio.  Colleague David Thompson, LMFT, and I have a podcast entitled Two Therapists Talking.

In my therapy practice I see individuals, couples, and families.  I draw from an ecclectic base of therapeutic interventions and theories including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Attachment Theory.  I am certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, a technique that reduces or eliminates past trauma. This helps clients process, heal, and develop new patterns more rapidly than talk therapy alone.

I genuinely believe every client that walks through my door is an incredible human, and my motto is "when you really understand someone, they make sense."  So if your patterns, or things occuring in a relationship with a partner, parent, child, friend, colleague don't make sense, it just means you don't fully understand the stuck spots yet.  That's what I'm here to help with.  And no matter what struggles you're experiencing, as we work together there will be hope, healing, empowerment, connection, relief, contentment--and likely some fun--ahead in your life!

I love helping clients find healing and balance, nurture meaningful relationships with self and others, and discover and pursue their passions.  I would be honored to walk that path with you.
